My new year started
today, I know its seems as though I'm a whole week late, but with the
kings celebration, and the kids not going back to school till today,
my normal routine has been haywire for three weeks, and it actually
feels like the old year was a long time ago. The kids, by the way,
are the kids that Steve teaches, they don't actually have any
personal connection to me.
I thought that I would
start as I mean to go on and go swimming this morning. I discovered
that I got the opening times of the baths wrong. When I arrived I
found out that I had missed the last swim for the morning. It was
only 11.30 but still I should have checked properly.
This is not me ,or anyone I know outside of my dreams. |
I did get up early in
the hope of getting some writing done before I went swimming, but as
I sat staring at my computer I realised that there is a good reason
why I don't try to write before 10 in the morning. I wrote about
three words, had a slice of toast a cup of coffee, failed to go
swimming and then went and had another cup of coffee in Steve's
office because he had forgotten his lunch and I was dropping it off
on the way back from the baths. In the end I did the shopping,(At
Least one useful thing ) had my own lunch and it is now mid way
through the afternoon with barely a word on paper.
I hope that this is not
an indication that this year is going to be as chaotic and
emotionally stressful as the last year was. However, I am still
feeling optimistic in a new year, new life kind of way.
I am calling 2019 my
year of getting things done. I wrote one novel, and two novellas from
a standing start, having never really tried any kind of serious
writing before. I entered a competition and did well in all three
categories, teaching me a little about writing short fiction,
non-fiction and poetry. Again all from a standing start, but having
done a couple of free online courses. I am pleased with that
achievement.
I want 2020 to be the
year when I get to grips with the more technical aspects of
publishing. Titles, covers, blurbs, proof reading, formatting. Still
baby steps, I am only too aware of how little I know, but I want to
get to the stage that I can publish my book and be happy that its
done right, and I can move on to the next one. So I will be reading,
listening to podcasts and watching you tube video's all to that
end. I know that I don't have the funds to do this professionally
yet, but there is no reason at all why I can't learn to make a
passable job in the meantime. Maybe I will learn to enjoy one or all
of those things, who knows.
Hopefully, by the end
of the year, I will have a small income from my writing which will
help with that. In 2019 I made about 100 euros from writing, but
spent much more than that. My biggest month was 27 euros but bearing
in mind that I didn't publish anything till the end of the year. I am
happy with that. For 2020, I would like to break even and have at
least 1,one hundred euro month. I have two novels and two novellas
planned for publication. Which means that I will need to up my
average daily word count slightly, but not by much.
Look out for Mass
Murder, Book 2 of The Camino Murders. It should be available
sometime around the end of March.
I am also planning to
continue with my million word challenge and hope to be over 500,000
words by the end of the year.
Happy new year to you
all and I hope that you are well on your way to achieving all of your
goals
